Solanco’s proposed 2013-2014 budget

Admin Offices-websiteThe Solanco Board of School Directors has released, for public review, the district’s proposed preliminary budget for the 2013-2014 school year.

The proposed $48.8-million budget includes a 2.6% increase in the district’s real estate property tax. Act 1 has established a tax index of 2% for Solanco in 2013-2014; Solanco will apply for an exception provided by Act 1 (visit the district website for more information).

The 2013-2014 budget would increase the millage rate from the current 11.2243 mills to 11.5161 mills. Homeowners would pay an additional $28.18 per $100,000 assessment. The average taxpayer will have a tax increase of $44.55 The Solanco School District would continue to have the lowest real estate tax rate among the 16 school districts in Lancaster County. Solanco’s millage rate is approximately 7.168 mills below the average Lancaster County school district millage rate.

Copies of the proposed 2013-2014 budget are available in the Solanco Administrative Office at 121 South Hess Street in Quarryville. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The school board is expected to adopt the proposed, preliminary 2013-2014 budget at the January 28 Solanco School Board meeting (7:30 p.m. in the Central Office at 121 South Hess Street in Quarryville). Final approval of a 2013-2014 budget is expected in June.
