Solanco’s 2020-2021 budget

| June 16, 2020

The Solanco School Board has adopted a $60.2-million budget for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

Because of the covid-19 pandemic and its negative impact on the economy, the district is anticipating a significant decrease in its collection of earned income tax and transfer tax revenue, which has made it necessary to include a 1.25-percent property tax increase in the budget. Solanco’s millage rate would increase to 10.9604, which is the lowest among all 16 school districts in Lancaster County, and is 6 mills below the county average. The millage rate increase will result in a property tax hike of $13.53 per $100,000 of assessed home and property value. The median homestead value in Solanco is $199,100; property tax for the average homeowner will increase by $26.94. The tax increase will generate an additional $320,000 in revenue for the Solanco budget.

The Solanco School Board has also extended the period, by 30 days, during which residents can pay their property tax at a discounted rate. The new discount period continues until September 30, a month longer than in the past.

To make tax payment easier, the Solanco Business Office is considering implementing a credit card payment system, and also providing a drop box option for payment. Detailed information about the budget, including Powerpoint presentations provided during Solanco School Board meetings, are available for review on the Solanco website (
