New administrators at the high school, Smith and Bart-Colerain

David-Beard-webBeginning July 1, there will be two new assistant principals at Solanco High School, and a new Dean of Students at George A. Smith Middle School.

David Beard and Jonathan Treese will be the new high school assistant principals, and Lindsay Capoferri will serve as Smith Middle School Dean of Students. Beard moves to the high school after serving as Smith Middle School Assistant Principal, and Treese comes to Solanco from the Muhlenberg School District in Berks County. Capoferri becomes Smith Middle School Dean of Students after serving 13 years as a teacher and school counselor in Solanco.

Prior to joining Smith Middle School as its Dean of Students in 2014, new high school assistant principal David Beard was a physical education teacher at Rising Sun Middle School in Maryland for nine years. He is beginning his third year of a doctorate program for Educational Leadership through Neumann University, and currently serves as president-elect for the Pennsylvania Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (PASCD), which recognized Beard as a 2016 Emerging Leader. Beard earned a dual degree Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership, and Curriculum and Instruction, from the American College of Education in Indianapolis.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Lock Haven University.

Jonathan Treese has been Dean of Students at Muhlenberg Middle School since 2015. He has also been a social studies teacher, in-school suspension teacher, and a basketball coach at Muhlenberg, Williamsport High School, and Abraxas Academy. In addition, he has been a long-term substitute in the School District of Lancaster. Treese earned K-12 principal certification and a Master’s of Science in Educational Development and Strategies at Wilkes University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education at Lebanon Valley College.

Capoferri becomes Dean of Students at Smith with 13 years of experience in Solanco, including six years as an English teacher at Swift Middle School and seven years as a guidance counselor at Solanco High School. In 2019, Capoferri was inducted into the Solanco Distinguished Teacher Program.

Former high school assistant principal Sara Parrish will become principal at Bart-Colerain Elementary School. She will replace Bart-Colerain Principal Sandra Haines, who is retiring. Former high school assistant principal Rick Esche has accepted a position at another school district. New assistant principals David Beard and Jonathan Treese will join principal Scott Long at Solanco High School on July 1.
