Prestigious honor for coach John Little

Hall of Fame - John LittleWEBRenowned former Solanco wrestling coach John Little will be inducted into The National Wrestling Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Hershey on April 26. Little is one of eight recipients of the Class of 2020 “Lifetime Service to Wrestling Awards” presented by the Pennsylvania State Chapter of The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.

Following graduation from Solanco in 1974 and then Millersville University, and a brief stint as head coach of junior high wrestling at Elizabethtown, Little came home to Solanco and served as an assistant coach under Ivan Steele. In 1982, Little began what would become a long award-winning career as Solanco’s varsity wrestling head coach. In 36 years as coach, Little’s career record was 328-170-1, and his accomplishments as coach and the achievements of many of his wrestlers are legendary throughout Pennsylvania and beyond. Under Little’s guidance, Solanco produced two state champion wrestlers, including a four-time state champ, 53 PIAA qualifiers, 19 individual division 3 champions and two division 3 team championships, and 29 of Little’s wrestlers earned all-state recognition.

While a student and wrestler at Solanco, Little was District III Southcentral Regional Champion and a qualifier for the PIAA State Tournament. At Millersville University he earned Division III All America wrestling honors in 1977-1978. Little was also a long-time teacher in the Solanco School District.
