Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas Judge Leonard Brown and Lancaster County Assistant District Attorney Janie A. Swinehart visited Solanco High School to participate with students in a mock criminal trial.

Students in Forensics class developed a “crime scene” by creating evidence based on their forensics studies. Students gathered and analyzed the evidence and developed presentations which were scored by a “grand jury” of teachers and staff at the high school. The highest-scoring presentation was used by students in law and society class to develop a criminal court case.

In preparation for the trial, attorney Samuel Encarnacion, Liz Low and Janie Swinehart assisted the students in the development of their arguments. The Honorable Leonard Brown presided over the trial, which also featured 12 student jurors. At the conclusion of the trial, Judge Brown and Janie A. Swinehart shared feedback and discussed their professional experiences with students.
