| June 17, 2019

Olivia Stoltzfus-WEB 5-2019Solanco High School senior Olivia Stoltzfus has won prestigious regional and national art awards, and she is also an accomplished writer. Olivia has been selected as a contributor for the 2019 edition of The Apprentice Writer – high school writers published by the Writers Institute at Susquehanna University. “This year, The Apprentice Writer received student submissions from 20 countries,” according to a news release from The Apprentice Writer. “We are very pleased to share the news of Olivia’s selection with you!”

Olivia’s published work is entitled Swan Road. She describes it as a personal essay about her grandparents, who are former Amish. Olivia said the honor of being published in The Apprentice Writer was unexpected, “I am more focused on art; writing helps me better articulate what I am trying to say through my art.”

Olivia credits her parents, Linford and Yvonne Stoltzfus, for the “holistic approach” they have provided to the lives of Olivia and her siblings (Kylie, Mariah, Sophia and Bennett). Olivia said her parents encourage creativity, “I think of myself as an artist but I express myself in many different ways.”

In addition to The Apprentice Writer, Olivia’s Obligation was previously published in Philadelphia Stories.

“We have some amazing students at Solanco and Olivia is a great example of this,” high school assistant principal Scott Long said. “Olivia is a talented writer and has made our school very proud. On top of being a great writer, Olivia is a kind and caring young lady and we are excited to see what her future holds.”

The print edition of The Apprentice Writer is in production and will be sent to Olivia in early September.
