Matt Reiprich - Reading for chicksESOLIn addition to their own self fulfillment, Providence Elementary students have read lots of books to help fight hunger. Participating in a project through Heifer International, students did considerable reading, including while on Christmas vacation, and in recognition of their efforts Heifer International purchased flocks of chicks that will be distributed to provide eggs to families in need around the world. “All students who reached their weekly reading goal earned a chick,” Providence teacher Matt Reiprich said. “By January 2, student readers had earned 75 chicks by
meeting their reading goals.”

Students even went one step further. “Students were so excited about helping others, they also brought in money to donate to the effort, which provided a donation of an additional 65 chicks,” Reiprich said.
