Distinguished achievement by six members of the Class of 2018

High School WEBSix 2018 Solanco graduates have earned prestigious Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone diplomas. The talented and hard-working students are Paige Crawford, Will Lehman, Abigail Nelson, Sophie Plechner, Tim Schmitt and Christian Stead.

“AP Capstone is a diploma program from the College Board, and it’s based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research,” Solanco High School AP Research teacher Leslie McRobbie said. “Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing and presenting.” Students who achieve scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research, and on four additional AP exams of their choosing, earn the AP Capstone diploma.

Solanco Assistant Superintendent Dr. Robert Dangler said, “Our students, parents, and staff have embraced this opportunity and we are exceptionally proud of all of the hard work that they have put in to make the inaugural graduation year of this program a tremendous success. We look forward to the continued growth and success of this program.”
