Kindergarten registration – parents must call by March 16 to schedule an appointment

| February 9, 2018

Children who will be five years old by September 30 are eligible for kindergarten during the 2018-2019 school year that begins in August. Parents who plan to have their children attend kindergarten must schedule a kindergarten registration appointment with the Solanco School District. Call Cindy Criswell no later than March 16 at 786-0517.

At least one parent or legal guardian, and their child, are required to attend the registration appointment, which will be about 30 minutes long. At the appointment, the child will be given a brief kindergarten readiness assessment while the parent or guardian will meet with school district personnel to complete the registration forms. By mid-summer, providing required documents have been submitted, parents will receive notification that their child has been assigned to either a morning or afternoon kindergarten session. All four of Solanco’s elementary schools – Bart-Colerain, Clermont, Providence, Quarryville – offer half-day kindergarten.

Following are the documents parents need to bring to the registration appointment:

  • The child’s original birth certificate (any parent who does not have the original birth certificate should ask for information on how to obtain a duplicate when they call the district to schedule their appointment).
  • The child’s immunization record, even if not complete at the time of registration.
  • Proof of residency (examples include materials that contain the parent’s current address, such as a current utility bill, bank statement, or renters agreement).
  • If applicable, notarized guardianship agreement, adoption      certificate, or notarized parent custodial agreement, which includes  educational rights of child.
  • In addition, every parent with a child eligible for kindergarten will have received a registration packet. All the papers included in that registration packet must be completed prior to arriving for registration.  Parents may choose to use Solanco’s electronic registration system to complete the forms. (An appointment is still necessary to complete the registration/readiness evaluation.)

In addition to the half-day kindergarten, Solanco also offers Extended Day Kindergarten. Children who are identified by the readiness assessment to be in the most need of additional instruction beyond half-day kindergarten will be invited to participate in Extended Day Kindergarten. Students who take part will attend Extended Day Kindergarten for half of the day, and then attend regular half-day kindergarten in the other half of the day. Parents can accept or decline the invitation for their child to participate in Extended Day Kindergarten.
