Communicating 2-hour delays and school closures

| January 4, 2018

Solanco website, Twitter and app provide the most reliable and timely info –

February 16, 2010 - Snow-reducedThe Solanco School District uses a number of communications tools to notify parents, students, staff and community members when there is a two-hour delay or school closure. They include the district website, Twitter, the Solanco app, the district Facebook page, the phone notification system, and local television and radio stations.

The district recommends the website, Twitter and app as the most convenient sources of updated information.

Solanco website (www.solancosd.org): Information about two-hour delays and school closures is posted prominently on the homepage of the district website.

@SolancoSchlDistFollow Solanco on Twitter for messages about delays, cancellations, early dismissals and other important information.

Download the Solanco app -  iTunes App Store or Google Play Store onto smart phones, tablets, ipads and other electronic mobile devices. App users are encouraged to  leave the notification settings in the “on” position. App users will receive a text indicating that they have just received an important app message
from the district.

Solanco’sFacebook page – “Like” Solanco’s Facebook page for information about delays and closures.

Phone message: While many parents and staff rely on the phone notification message, it is not the most reliable or timely source of information. The system is used to quickly make thousands of calls and, unfortunately, some calls are often missed. Instead, it is recommended that the website, Twitter and/or app are used, in addition to the phone call, to stay informed about school delays and closures.

Local media: Solanco notifies WGAL TV-8, WHTM abc27,  WHP TV-21, Fun 101.3, and WDAC 94.5 so they can broadcast information about delays and school closures.
