Solanco sports stars sign on to play in college

Ben Root WEBAll-star Solanco wrestler Ben Root has signed a letter of intent to attend and wrestle for American University. American University is in Washington, D.C. and a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).

Ben signed his letter of intent in the Solanco High School auditorium as his parents, Kim and Barry Root, along with Solanco wrestling teammates and friends, looked on. Ben plans to study computer graphic design at American University.

Solanco wrestling coach John Little said Ben’s overall record at Solanco is an impressive 83-43 with 42 pins. He’s a first-team all-star, sectional champion, league champ, finished third in district regionals, and came within one match of placing at states. He will wrestle this season for Solanco at 170 pounds.

Allison McDowellWEBTwo Solanco sports stars have signed a letter of commitment to attend and play for Weidner University.

As her parents, Jennifer and Chad McDowell look on, Allison McDowell (center) signs on to play softball at Weidner University. Allison plans to study nursing at Weidner.

In addition, Solanco Athletic Director Anthony Hall said field hockey standout Hannah Myers will also commit to Weidner.
