Bargain shopping in support of those in need

| September 29, 2017

Brittany CorneliusESOLFormer Solanco High School student Brittany Cornelius, and the online couponing group that she leads, purchases and donates many important items for Solanco High School students in need.

In 2015, Brittany began her bargain-shopping group, called “From Coupons to Stockpiles,” and it has quickly grown to an astonishing 400-plus members. Brittany uses Facebook and other social media to make members aware of current coupons, discounts and sales that they can use for significant savings at stores including Musser’s Market, Rite-Aid, CVS, Shop-Rite and many others.

In addition to personal purchases, Brittany and others use coupons to make cost-saving purchases of toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream and other personal hygiene products for donation to Solanco High School, the Solanco Food  Bank and other local organizations. Also purchased and donated are pens, notebooks and other school supplies. Brittany often posts on Facebook photos of items to be donated in order to encourage others to participate.

Solanco High School Assistant Principal Scott Long said the school nurse, counselors and physical education teachers inform students in the most need about the availability of the products. Donated items are also distributed through Renee’s Closet and Dapper Dan’s at the high school, which also provides students with free gowns, suits and dress clothes from the homecoming dance, prom and other formal occasions.

Brittany said she learned couponing from her mother. “From Coupons to Stockpiles” can be contacted through Facebook. Local residents in distress can also contact Brittany through Facebook to request items they need.
