New teachers in the Solanco School District

Twenty new teachers, two new librarians, and a new counselor, school nurse, psychologist and speech therapist will greet students when they return to school in Solanco on Monday (August 28).

First row in the above photo -
Lindsey Barker
is a new art teacher at Smith Middle School. She is a graduate of Millersville University and Queen’s University, Belfast. She has taught previously in the Warwick School District. Her interests include hiking, tennis, traveling, reading and gaming.

Johanna Jurisson is a Spanish teacher at the high school. She is a graduate of Solanco High School, and Millersville University. She taught for three years at the Black Forest Academy in Germany.

Danielle Croft is a 7th grade LEAD teacher at Smith Middle School. She has taught previously in the Penn Manor and Northeastern school districts. She is a graduate of London Metropolitan University and Millersville University. Hobbies include lacrosse, traveling, hiking, kayaking and reading.

Sarah Musselman is a math teacher at the high school. She is a graduate of Millersville University and has taught previously at Columbia High School. She enjoys running. (She began teaching in Solanco in January.)

Michael Miller is a social studies and English teacher at the high school. He is a graduate of Neumann University and Johns Hopkins, and has taught previously in the Philadelphia School District. His interests include the New York Yankees and playing baseball.

Ethan Martin
is a new 7th grade social studies teacher at Swift Middle School. He graduated from Albright College and Millersville University and his interests include sports, his family and his faith.

Ted Barron is a learning support teacher at Solanco High School. He is a University of Pittsburgh graduate, and his hobbies are football, basketball, music and movies.

Charleton King is a physics and forensics science teacher at the high school. He is a graduate of Millersville University and Eastern Mennonite University.  He has previous teaching experience in the Manheim Township and Penn Manor school districts and Lancaster Bible College. He enjoys disc golf, and playing drums in his church’s worship ministry.

John Biles is an American Literature, public speaking and acting teacher at the high school. He is a graduate of Point Park University, and New York University. He previously taught middle school musical theater drama, and high school musical theater history, at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. John is a professional actor, and enjoys Pittsburgh sports.

G. Nicole Domaracki is a learning support teacher at Swift Middle School. She is a graduate of Millersville University and her interests include traveling, hiking, kayaking and working with children.

Sara Thomas is a librarian at Clermont Elementary School. She is a graduate of Gettysburg College and Millersville University. She taught English as a Second Language in China, and worked at New York Public Radio prior to beginning her teaching career.

Ashley Sipe is a kindergarten teacher at Quarryville Elementary School. She is a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania and has previous teaching experience in the West York School District, the Southern School District, and York Academy Charter School. She enjoys spending time reading, learning and having fun with her young child.

Cortney Shirey is a 5th grade teacher at Clermont Elementary. She graduated from West Chester University and enjoys reading and crafting.

Jaclyn Whittaker is a kindergarten teacher at Bart-Colerain and Clermont elementary schools. She is a graduate of the University of Valley Forge, and Millersville University. Her interests include reading, cooking, gardening and other outdoor activities.

Tara Cloud is a speech therapist at Providence Elementary. She is a graduate of Juniata College and Bloomsburg University, and her interests include hiking, baking and hunting. (She began teaching in Solanco in January.)

Aaren Davis is a kindergarten teacher at Providence Elementary. She is a graduate of Millersville University and her hobbies are reading, hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Tabitha Hushon is a 3rd grade teacher at Clermont Elementary. She is a graduate of Millersville University and enjoys outdoor activities including camping, fishing, and snowboarding. She also races ATV Motocross.

Mollie Truitt is a school nurse at Providence and Quarryville elementary schools, and Smith Middle School. She is a graduate of Lancaster General College of Nursing and Pennsylvania College of Nursing. She has was a registered nurse at Lancaster General Hospital for five years. She enjoys time with her family and friends, and vacationing at the beach and in the mountains.

Phoebe Bender will teach art at Bart-Colerain Elementary. She is a graduate of Kutztown University, and her hobbies include hiking, backpacking, cooking and kayaking.

Melissa Sattazahn is the new librarian at Bart-Colerain and Providence elementary schools. She has previous teaching experience in the Williams Valley School District. She is a graduate of Kutztown University, and her interests include reading and bell choir.

Dane Jester is a new school psychologist at the high school, Swift Middle School and Bart-Colerain Elementary. He is a graduate of Temple University. He enjoys reading, bicycling, and exploring the great outdoors.

Sarah Kratz will teach 3rd grade at Clermont Elementary School. She is a graduate of Smith College and Marymount University. She has previous teaching experience in Virginia and North Dakota. Her hobbies include yoga, dancing, fishing and traveling.

Amy Hornberger is a 2nd grade teacher at Clermont Elementary. She was a teacher in the Southern Columbia School District for 16 years. She is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and Wilkes University. Amy is planning her June 2018 wedding, and also enjoys time with family, and running, including nine half-marathons.

Erica Ware is a counselor at Bart-Colerain and Providence elementary schools. She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Millersville University. She has served previously as elementary and middle school counselor for Allegheny Intermediate Unit (IU) 3. She enjoys reading on the beach, traveling, and time with her husband and daughters.

Shannon Kreider is a 2nd grade teacher at Providence Elementary. She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University and Widener University School of Law, and previously taught preschool early intervention in the Toms River Regional School District in New Jersey. She enjoys the beach, reading, time with her husband, and cheering on her brother at the Special Olympics.

Evan Belczyk is a physical education teacher at Bart-Colerain and Providence elementary schools. He is a graduate of Solanco High School and Penn State University.

Familiar teachers in new schools:
Some Solanco teachers have changed schools. Following is a list of teachers and the schools they will be in this year, and the schools they previously taught in:

Tim Glackin will be an English Language Learner teacher at the high school and Clermont Elementary, . He formerly taught social studies at the high school.

Mike Hammel is a social studies teacher at the high school. He formerly was Teacher of the Gifted.

Kesse Humphreys is an art teacher at Solanco High School. He formerly taught art at Smith Middle School.

Alison McPherson is a reading specialist at Clermont Elementary. She was formerly a reading specialist at Swift Middle School.

Emily Ritholz is a reading specialist at Bart-Colerain Elementary School. She was formerly a reading specialist at Smith Middle School.

Katrina Snyder is the new librarian at Quarryville Elementary School. She had been librarian at Bart-Colerain and Providence elementary schools.

Billie Corbin is a special education teacher at Clermont Elementary. She formerly taught 2nd grade at Clermont.

Lauren Byerly is a kindergarten teacher at Clermont Elementary school. She previously taught kindergarten at Bart-Colerain and Clermont elementary schools.
