High School - Aevidum assmeblyThe student Avedium Club at Solanco High School hosted two enthusiastic and important assemblies on Thursday. Avedium is an anti-bullying club that encourages students to seek help for anyone who they realize is struggling with issues such as bullying and depression. Aevidum began in 2009 at Cocalico High School following a student suicide, and now has clubs in more than 150 high schools, middle schools and colleges nationwide, including Solanco High School.

“The mission of the Aevidum Club is to raise awareness about mental health illness and other issues facing teens,” Solanco High School Counselor Patricia McTaggart said. “Aevidum is a program that focuses on promoting a positive school climate and an ‘I’ve got your back’ atmosphere among students and staff.”

Last year, students Logan Yaletchko, Doug Zook, Bailey Conover, Josh Canale, Mike Carter, Vanessa McCauley, Zach Mueller, Cheyenne Wood,  Shannon Conover and Bethany Tipton traveled to Neumann University for Aevidum training. They learned that Aevidum attempts to create in schools a healthy environment where all students feel accepted, appreciated and cared for.

During this week’s Solanco High School assemblies, students in grades 9-12 were reminded that counselors are available to help them not only with college and career goals, but also their personal and social needs.
