Preliminary 2017-2018 Solanco budget available for review

| January 24, 2017

At the Monday, January 23 Solanco School Board meeting, business manager Dr. Tim Shrom provided a presentation about the Solanco School District’s preliminary budget for the 2017-2018 school year.

The proposed $58.095-million preliminary budget includes a 2.9% increase in the district’s real estate property tax. The increase would be below the Act 1 tax index of 3.0% established for Solanco in 2017-2018.

Homeowners would pay an additional $36.10 per $100,000 assessment. The average property tax increase in the district would be $52.79 , based on  the $146,200 median assessment  in the district.

The Solanco School District would continue to have the lowest real estate tax among the 16 school districts in Lancaster County.

The $58.095-million preliminary budget would be a 4.2% expenditure increase over the current 2016-2017 budget, and a 3.6% revenue increase, with existing reserves covering the difference. The preliminary budget will be monitored for adjustments all through the spring as better information surfaces, and the state deliberates its budget.  A final budget will be adopted in June. A 2017-2018 Budget Grid, with presentations and other information pertinent to the budget development process, is available on the Solanco website.

Copies of the 2017-2018 preliminary budget are available in the Solanco Administrative Office at 121 South Hess Street in Quarryville. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anyone with questions or comments is asked to call 786-5607.
