FFA - Dairy Judging Team-WEBThe Solanco FFA Dairy Judging team of Amber Kirk, Hanna Welk, Kyle Phipps and Madison Jackson (left to right in the photo) did very well at the National FFA Dairy Evaluation Career Development Event held in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 19 and 20. “Hanna and Amber each received gold recognition while Kyle and Maddie received silver recognition,” Solanco Lead Agriculture teacher Carey Kalupson said. “The team placed 13th overall out of a field of 40 teams representing the FFA champions from each of the participating states. Solanco had won our state competition in June of this year, earning them the right to compete against the best the country has to offer.” The photo was taken at the state FFA competition.

The national competition in Indianapolis consisted of a lengthy written test on the dairy industry, a shared problem solving exercise and team presentation of proposed solutions based on dairy herd records provided on Wednesday, October 19. On Thursday, the students each judged six classes of dairy animals of various breeds and presented oral reasons for why they placed the animals as they did for three of the six classes. Results were announced and the awards banquet held on Friday October, 21.
