Important sessions for parents and community members

“Preppin’ for Preschool” on April 2 - One-to 3-year old toddlers, and their parents and caregivers, are invited to an important workshop on Saturday, April 2 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Quarryville Library. The session, a collaboration between Solanco
School District teachers and local preschools, will provide attendees with information about developing in youngsters the skills they will need as they begin school. “Preppin’ for Preschool” will include crawling around on the floor and playing with toys while learning fun ways to develop skills that toddlers will be practicing and perfecting in preschool and elementary school.

“Grit and Resiliency” presentation for parents, teachers, community members on April 7 -  Mauricio A. Velasquez will visit Solanco on Thursday, April 7 to discuss “grit,” which many believe is very important to a child’s success in school. Also included will be information on a child’s resiliency, which is the ability  to overcome challenges of all kinds–trauma, tragedy, personal crises, life problems–and bounce back stronger, wiser, and more powerful. The important and informative presentation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. on April 7 in the high school auditorium. Admission is free. Anyone interested in the childcare that will be available for school-aged children is asked to call Karen Burkhart at 786-5619.

Meeting for parents of incoming kindergarten students on April 14 – Parents of young children are invited to a meeting that will help prepare them for their child’s entrance into kindergarten in August. The informational session will be held at the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Bart-Colerain Elementary Principal Sandy Haines will describe the kindergarten registration process and the assessments that are conducted. There will also be information about the resources available locally for kindergarten students. Student transportation in the district will also be discussed. The meeting is free and all parents of incoming kindergarten students are welcome. Parents are asked to register by calling Karen Burkhart at 786-5619.
