Emelyn Hatch wins Scholastic Writing Awards

Emelyn HatchWEB2Last year, Emelyn Hatch’s writing talent earned her high honors at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and she is once again receiving prestigious recognition for her outstanding writing skills. Emelyn, a senior at Solanco High School, has earned multiple honors from the Scholastic Writing Awards, including a Gold Key for poetry collection,¬†two Silver Keys for poetry collection and short story, and an Honorable Mention for flash fiction. An awards ceremony will be held Sunday, March 6 at Millersville University’s Ware Center in Lancaster.

“Last year, Emelyn was recognized as one of the best young writers in the country,” Solanco High School English teacher Jessica Prokay said. “Her work was selected for a prestigious National Scholastics Award, which she received at Carnegie Hall. We continue to be proud of Emelyn and her work and recognize this remarkable achievement!”

Following are the titles of Emelyn’s works and the awards they have received from the Scholastic Art Awards:

Gold Key (poetry collection): Wanderers, he and She, playground song, idle
Silver Key (poetry collection): Winter, that hour, love song
Silver Key (short story): The White Knight
Honorable  Mention (flash fiction): 440

Emelyn’s talents and achievements extend beyond writing. She also plays the cello, and recently was selected to perform in the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association (LLMEA) County Orchestra Festival.
