27 new teachers in the Solanco School District

Twenty-seven new teachers are joining the Solanco School District for the 2015-2016 school year, which begins with the first day of classes on Monday, August 31. As he introduced the new teachers at the August 24 Solanco School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Brian Bliss said they were hired based on their “ability, knowledge, personality and their belief in children.” Inspiring students is a top priority, Dr. Bliss said.

Elementary schools:

Julie McCarter will teach 5th grade at Bart-Colerain Elementary. She is a graduate of Millersville University. Her interests include spending time with family, traveling and baking.
Maria Young is a 4th grade teacher at Clermont Elementary. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at Clarion University, and her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction at Gannon University. Her hobbies include camping, traveling with her family and working on the family farm.
Jenna Adams is a kindergarten teacher at Providence Elementary School. She is a graduate of Penn State University and Millersville University. Her interest include spending time with family and friends.
Ariel Frick will teach 2nd grade at Providence Elementary School. She is a graduate of Millersville University. Her hobbies include horseback riding and spending time with her family.
John Hunsinger is a 5th grade teacher at Providence Elementary. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He enjoys traveling, and playing golf, soccer and hockey.
Alyssa Lambert is a 4th grade teacher at Providence Elementary school. She is a Penn State University graduate who enjoys arts and crafts, photography and fishing.
Kate Bannon is an extended day kindergarten teacher at Quarryville Elementary. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and West Chester University.  Her interests include family time, gymnastics, traveling, and do-it-yourself projects.
Eva Gimello is a 4th grade teacher at Quarryville Elementary. She is a graduate of The College of New Jersey and performed graduate coursework at Rider University. Her hobbies include playing soccer.
Nicole Hartman is the new librarian at Quarryville Elementary School. She comes to Solanco from the Quarryville Library, and she is a graduate of Millersville University and Clarion University. Her interests include theater, crafts, puzzles, board games and cooking.
Ashley Martinez is a kindergarten teacher at Quarryville Elementary. She is a graduate of The College of Saint Rose, and the University of Albany. Her interests include scrapbooking, traveling, crafts and spending time with her family.
Lauren Byerly will teach extended day kindergarten at Bart-Colerain Elementary, and kindergarten at Clermont. She is a graduate of Millersville University, and her hobbies include dancing, musicals, and serving as a crew member for a hot air balloon company.
Cody Mellinger is a health and physical education teacher at Bart-Colerain and Providence elementary schools. He graduated from West Chester University, where he was the speed and conditioning coach for the West Chester University softball team. His interests include exercising and watching sports, and playing the trumpet in the Calvary Church Orchestra, the New Holland Band and the Ephrata Community Band.
Hayley Williams is a learning support teacher at Bart-Colerain and Quarryville elementary schools. She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her hobbies are crafts, reading, and spending time outdoors and exploring new places.
Carrie Page will teach art at Providence and Quarryville elementary schools. She graduated from Kutztown University. Her hobbies are hiking, climbing, ceramics and artwork.

Middle schools:

Christi Dienner is the 8th grade LEAD teacher at Smith Middle School. She is a graduate of Millersville University and her interests include horseback riding, reading, and gardening and other outdoor activities.
Matthew Jansen is a new health and physical education teacher at Smith Middle School. He is also an assistant coach with the Solanco girls’ junior high soccer team. He is a West Chester University graduate.
Sarah Mangan will teach 8th grade English Language Arts at Smith Middle School. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. Sarah is fluent in Spanish and her interests include painting, reading, writing, singing and dancing.
Ben Miller is a new 6th grade social studies teacher at Swift Middle School. A graduate of Solanco High School and Kutztown University, his hobbies are sports, coaching and hunting.

High school:

Amanda Corbett is an emotional support/ special education teacher at  the high school. She graduated from Albright College. Her hobbies are outdoor activities, scrapbooking and baking.
Matthew Crawford will teach social studies at the high school. He is a graduate of Messiah College and his hobbies are skiing, running, swimming and spending time at the beach.
Elizabeth Fouse is a special education/emotional support teacher at the high school. She graduated from Messiah College and Albright College.
William Harrison is a health and physical education teacher at the high school. He is a graduate of Lancaster Bible College. He has coached varsity basketball and track for the past five years.
Keese Humphreys is a new art teacher at Solanco High School. He is a graduate of the Tyler School of Art. Hobbies include camping, traveling, designing and welding.  is a 9th and 10th grade math teacher at Solanco High School.
Erin Malloy will teach 10th grade world literature. She is a graduate of Dickinson College. Her interests are reading, do-it-yourself projects, running, cooking and traveling with her family.
Danielle Reenstra is a biology teacher at the high school. A graduate of Millersville University and York College, her hobbies include her dogs, reading and Netflix.
Barbara Swinsburg will teach French at the high school. She is a Messiah College graduate. Barbara and her husband swing dance.
Tristan Zelinka is a new guidance counselor at the high school. A graduate of Bloomsburg University, he enjoys hiking, fishing, camping and running.
