School board adopts 2015-2016 district budget

QE - 1st day 9webThe Solanco School Board has approved a final budget for the 2015-2016 school year. The $52.9-million budget contains a tax increase of 2.50-percent that is needed to offset a 21-percent mandated increase in pension costs to the district. The Solanco School District continues to have the lowest real estate tax rate among the 16 school districts in Lancaster County.

Act 1 has established a tax index of 2.3-percent for Solanco in 2015-2016. For a 2.5-percent tax increase, Solanco will apply for an exception in the amount of .20-percent for pension and special education costs. The millage rate would increase from 11.8040 mills to 12.0991 mills. Homeowners would pay an additional $29.51 per $100,000 in assessed home value. The average assessed home value in Solanco is $152,620 and its property tax would crease by $45.04.
