Smith - Math students2WEBSmith Middle School 8th grader Aidan McBride (center) scored in the 99th percentile on a MATHCON exam that was taken by 45,000 students nationwide! That fantastic performance has earned him the opportunity to compete with 700 of the brightest math students in the United States during the National MATHCON Test in Chicago on April 25.

Smith students Azra Mutapcic (left) and Faith Rineer (right) also excelled in the preliminary exam. They both scored in the 97th percentile, and those very impressive scores have gotten them elected as alternatives to the national exam.

Smith Middle School math teacher Ed Novakoski said the students are “Determined, driven and goal-oriented,” and they have made Smith Middle School and the Solanco School District proud.

On the preliminary MATHCON exam, students had 40 minutes to complete 40 math problems, and Aidan, Azra and Faith had some of the highest scores in the entire country!
