New nutritional standards for food items sold in schools

As students return to school next week they will notice some changes in a la carte items available for purchase in school cafeterias.

In a presentation to the Solanco School Board on Monday, Food Service Director Matt Kirchoff said the United States Agriculture Department (USDA) has implemented┬áthe Smart Snacks initiative that establishes new standards for some of the food items that can be sold in school cafeterias.
