Directions for parent notification system

| August 22, 2014

The Solanco School District uses a parent/guardian notification system called Power Announcement to quickly and effectively communicate with families of students. In addition to voice messaging (phone calls), important messages can also be sent as email messages and text messages.

Parents are responsible for setting up their preferences in PowerSchool. Power Announcement is integrated with the PowerSchool Parent Portal. When a parent logs-on to the Parent Portal they will see a link called “Power Announcement.”

By default, phone call messages and email messages will be selected. To receive text messages, parents must go to “Preferences by Message Type” and check the box next to “Contact Me Using Text Messaging.” Tolls and charges associated with receipt of messages are the responsibility of the parent. Parents are asked to set their unique preferences if there are any numbers or addresses they do not wish to be contacted at.

NOTE: Emergency messages are always sent with all three message types (voice call, email, text) and to every field shown (even if a parent has opted out). Solanco cannot change this. Emergency messages will be labeled as “Emergency” so parents will immediately recognize the high importance of the incoming message.

Parents are asked to keep their phone number and other information in PowerSchool up-to-date throughout the school year so Solanco can quickly contact them with important messages when necessary.

Voice calls from the Solanco School District will usually be sent with 717.786.5617 as the caller ID number. Parents may want to add this phone number to their address book to help them recognize incoming calls. Text messages will be sent using a caller ID of 77811. Parents may want to add this number to their address book as well. Please note that text messages from Solanco cannot be replied to.

Parents who do not have access to the Parent Portal may contact their child’s school to request changes.

Questions can be emailed to, or speak with a school secretary or principal.
