Middle school girls invited to take part in Girls on Track

| August 13, 2014

A unique, enjoyable and important after-school program that improves healthy living and self respect among middle school girls will be held at Solanco this fall. All girls in 6th, 7th and 8th grades at Smith and Swift can participate in Girls on Track. Solanco guidance counselor Lindsay Capoferri said the Girls on Track curriculum is designed to address the challenges that affect the emotional and physical well-begin of middle school girls “by empowering them to make thoughtful and healthy decisions. The program addresses the societal, mental and emotional challenges particular to girls of middle school age.”

High school girls will serve as ‘running buddies’ to build mentoring relationships and provide middle school girls with opportunities to meet role models prior to attending the high school.

In addition to running, girls will participate in beneficial interactive activities such as playing games and discussing issues of importance to them.

Participants will meet at the high school 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 8 through November 17.

The program is limited to 12 girls. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis; visit the Girls on Track website.
