High School - Mini Thon - WEBThe students and teacher who were the driving force behind the incredibly successful Solanco Mini Thon have been honored by Superintendent Dr. Martin Hudacs and the Solanco School Board.

From left to right, Carly Allport, Donna Montgomery, teacher Brenda Lloyd, Nolan Quinn and Travis Hoover planned Solanco’s first-ever Mini Thon, which far surpassed its original $6,000 fundraising goal by generating more than $21,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital! The money will be used in the prevention and treatment of childhood cancer.

More than 300 high school students and 100 middle school students raised money to participate in the overnight Mini Thon on Friday, February 7 to Saturday, February 8. In addition to dancing, there were games and many other fun and important activities. Thirteen people participated in Locks of Love hair cuts in which their hair will be used to make wigs for cancer patients.  Students created more than 500 hand-made Valentine’s Day cards, including hand-written messages of support and love for patients at Penn State Hershey’s Children Hospital. Several Four Diamonds Fund families attended and spoke to attendees at the Mini Thon. There was also a luminary lighting ceremony in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of those who have been lost to cancer.

Plans are already underway for next year’s second annual Solanco Mini Thon!
